This page will help parents and students understand how things are graded and some of the grading philosophy that I have.  You can view your student's grades anytime by looking on FamilyLink. If you have trouble logging in to the system, just let me know if you can go to the office to get your FamilyLink login credentials  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Standards-Based/Skill-Based Grading:

Snowflake Unified School District has been working on transitioning to a standards-based grading policy district-wide but emphasized with the K-6 students.  With standards-based grading teachers continually teach and reinforce particular skills that show teachers, parents, and students how successful they are in any specific area in Math, Reading, and Writing.  Standards are chosen based on state law as well as skills needed to be successful in the following school year.  Students will NOT get an ABCDF grade for a complete subject.

Standards-based grading is on a 4-point scale.

1. If a student gets a "1" on a standard it means they are below grade level.  Reteach will be attached to any skill that is at the "1" level.

2. If a student gets a "2" on a standard it means that they are starting to get how to be successful in that skill, but work is still needed.  Reteach will be attached to any skill that is at the "2" level.

3. If a student gets a "3" on a standard it means that between 6 to 9 times out of 10 tries to demonstrate their knowledge of a skill the student will get it done correctly.  Reteach is something they would get once in a while as we work to help a student get to the "4" level.

4. If a student gets a "4" on a standard it means that they will be able to demonstrate ability 100% of the time.  The student has mastered the skill. This is our ultimate goal is to get students to understand all skills that will help them become successful learners in 3rd grade and be ready for 4th grade.  Students will still practice this skill throughout the year but will be able to move on into enrichment activities while we are working with other students that are not quite at the "4" level.
